Another Coupon Acceptance Policy for Sobeys Grocery Store

This is our grocery store of choice due to the wide selection and high quality produce and meats. We do prefer to support stores who support our habit to live more frugally and there is certainly room for improvement.

Here's the reply to our couponing policy request:

Thank you for contacting Sobeys Customer Care.


Due to the large amount of fraudulent online coupons circulating, Sobeys will not be honouring online coupons at this time. Coupons must be part of a merchandising program between the merchandiser and vendor.

Manufacturer coupons are accepted by stores provided the issuing vendor regulations are met. Each coupon is evaluated on an individual basis by store management. If you have any concerns please feel free to speak with the store manager or franchisee where you shop who will be happy to assist you.

There's certainly a discussion here around how couponing will evolve in the future due to 'fraud' behaviours. Should coupons be available on apps and then eliminate the need for paper? For example, X, Y, and Z manufacturers load coupons to National Grocery Coupons App support by major grocery stores and the coupons are available to so many takers? Is this a way to be green and stop fraud? Hmmm.


We love couponing and want to see it's success carry throughout the years. It's very disappointing for so many good coupons to be refused. It seems like such a waste of resources to create these deals if so few people will be able to redeem them.
